Adding a driver under 25? Don’t just accept the new rate.
Every carrier prices a young driver differently, and most families never find out by how much. Amy shops it across 10 carriers and lines up every young-driver discount you qualify for.
- Good-student, driver-training and distant-student discounts
- Telematics options that reward safe driving
- No account, no spam, nothing sold as a lead

Three steps, one person, no call center.

- See the spreadThe same teen can cost twice as much at one carrier as another. You see the range across our carriers in about a minute.
- Amy finds the discountsGood student, driver training, away-at-school, safe-driving apps, and the right car on the right policy. Then a real, bindable quote.
A new driver is the biggest single change a policy ever sees.
Carriers rate a 16-year-old as the riskiest driver on the road, and many families see their premium rise 50 to 100 percent when one is added. The jump is real. How big it is depends almost entirely on which carrier you are with and which discounts get applied.
That is where an independent agent earns their keep. We know which carriers are kind to young drivers, which ones want the student rated on the oldest car, and which discounts stack. Most families we help keep the same coverage and pay less than their current carrier asked for.
- Good student (usually a B average)
- Driver-training course completion
- Distant student, 100+ miles from home without a car
- Safe-driver telematics apps
- Assigning the young driver to the right vehicle

Should my teen get their own policy?
Almost never. A separate policy for a young driver costs far more than adding them to yours, and they lose your multi-car and bundle discounts. We will tell you if your case is the exception.
What if they only have a learner’s permit?
Most carriers cover permit holders on the parent’s policy at no charge until they are licensed. Tell us the date they expect to get licensed and we quote for that.
Does a college student away from home still need to be listed?
Yes, if they ever drive your cars on breaks. But if they are 100+ miles away without a car, the distant-student discount can cut most of their cost.
Will shopping affect my current policy?
No. Nothing changes until you decide. We quote first and you compare it to what you have.
